Duets (Glee) Overview

So this week the kids were challenged to pair up and work on duets. In a slight twist, Puck was absent from this week's episode because he is in juvie for stealing the ATM from a convenience store. Thus, in his absence there is an odd number of kids. How does this work, you say? Well, Sam has officially joined the club! With his recent injury I figured his joining would be inevitable. Finn and Rachel pair up (obviously), Tina and Mike (after Artie turned her down because he is with Brittany), Santana and Mercedes (even though they can't stand each other. Santana just REALLY wanted to win.), Artie and Brittany (they withdrew from the competition), Sam and Quinn (I spot a budding romance!) and Kurt just performed solo after he decided against working with Sam.

In the very beginning, we are thrown into Brittany's bedroom for some interesting (to say the least) happenings between her and Santana. Brittany suggests that they should do a duet for Glee and Santana shoots her down. Maybe because she isn't ready to publicly embrace their "relationship" or whatever is happening between them.

After being turned down by Santana Brittany goes to Artie and asks him to be her duet partner/boyfriend. He doesn't understand why but accepts anyway. Tina and Mike get into a fight about how he doesn't want to do a duet because he isn't really a singer and how they never go on any normal dates.

Kurt initially wanted to work with Sam for the duet and Sam was on board. But after getting slushied and Kurt's dad had a talk with Kurt about how maybe he was pushing the kid too hard, Kurt dissolved their partnership and Sam started trying to convince Quinn to be his partner. After telling Sam that they were no longer going to work together, he does his performance of  "Le Jazz Hot". This was my second favorite number. Finn and Rachel's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" is definitely my number one. What can I say, I love them.

Finn and Rachel are pretty sure they are going to win. Rachel realizes that Sam has to win in order for him to feel accepted into the group and they spend the majority of the episode trying to find a way to lose. This comes by way of a super offensive rendition of "With You, I Am Born Again " dressed as a priest and a nun respectively.

Santana and Mercedes perform their duet, "River Deep, Mountain High". I'm pretty sure Santana has some sort of problem because she is SUPER obsessed with winning the free trip to Breadstix.

Tina and Mike do an uber cute version of "Sing!" from A Chorus Line. I'd have to say this is my third favorite.

While practicing for their duet, Artie realizes that he isn't over Tina and tries to leave. Brittany has other plans. "Before our duet, we're gonna do it." I think that says enough. The reason they pull out of the competition is because Brittany was just using him so she could win/make Santana a little jealous.

After Finn and Rachel perform, Quinn and Sam do their duet. Their chemistry was super palpable and because everyone voted for themselves except Finn and Rachel, they won. Their trip to Breadstix was "so not a date" according to Quinn at first. However, after having a cute little conversation about how he thought she was really brave for coming back, she changes her mind and makes him pay, "a gentleman always pays on the first date".

At the end of the episode, Rachel and Kurt sing a mash-up of "Happy Days Are Here Again" and "Get Happy" so that Kurt will know that he isn't alone and the glee kids love him.
